This Crock Pot Hot Spiced Apple Cider is a great drink for the adults to enjoy, all on their very own!

Fall is officially here! In New England, that means crisp, cool air, majestic colors lighting up the roadside, and apples, apples, and more apples! It’s apple-picking season and we got our journey on a few weekends ago. We also picked up some organic cider, which is made locally, literally a minute from our house. I used a good amount to whip up one of our fall favorites, Crock Pot Hot Spiced Apple Cider.

Crock Pot Hot Spiced Apple Cider

I know what you must be thinking. There are a ton of hot cider recipes out there, what makes this one any different? Well, for one, this particular recipe is made in a crock pot, which is the perfect environment for allowing food and beverages to simmer and gain intense flavor.

And second, unlike a lot of hot spiced apple cider recipes, this one does not require a bunch of mulling spices and fancy footwork. All you have to do is pop everything into the crock and you’re good to go.

Ingredients needed to make slow cooker apple cider

  • 2 quarts apple cider
  • 8 3-inch cinnamon sticks
  • 1 whole nutmeg
  • 1 medium orange
  • rum – optional
  • cinnamon sticks for stirring

How to make Homemade Apple Cider

Pour apple cider into a 3-quart or larger crockpot. Add cinnamon sticks and whole nutmeg to the cider.

Stick whole cloves into the skin of orange wedges. Place wedges directly into cider or wrap in cheesecloth first.

Cook on low for about 4 hours. Ladle into mugs along with an ounce or so of rum if using. Place a cinnamon stick in each glass. Serve.

Variations

You can definitely add other spices or brown sugar. And it’s even yummier when topped with a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar.

If you decide to make spiked apple cider, the rum is a great addition that adults will love.

Enjoy!
