SOUR CREAM MASHED POTATOES 1

I know people are very passionate about how they want their mashed potatoes served. There are those who love the soft, smooth, and creamy kind and those who prefer their potatoes hearty and full textured. Me? I like them full-flavored, skin-on, and with Sour Cream and garlic!

You can use any type of potatoes and change the amounts of butter, sour cream, and milk to your taste. I like it with russets myself. The garlic adds a savory taste, but feel free to get creative! Some people love to blend in a bit of salsa or sauteed onions! YUM! The options are endless on how you can create and mash up the potatoes.

Ingredients needed to make homemade mashed potatoes:

  • 3 pounds potatoes, cubed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tsp garlic
  • 2 tsp dried basil

How To Make Sour Cream Mashed Potatoes

Clean and rinse potatoes under cold water. Pat dry.

Cut the unpeeled potatoes into 1-inch cubes.

Bring a pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add potatoes, and cook until tender, about 15 minutes.

Heat the milk and butter in a small saucepan, making sure it doesn’t boil. Set aside until the potatoes are ready.

Drain potatoes, and transfer to a bowl.

Slowly whisk in a hot milk/butter mixture to make the potatoes somewhat creamy.

Add sour cream, and mix to your desired texture. Be careful not to over mix the potatoes.

Season with garlic, basil, salt, and pepper.
