These Pepperoni Pizza Calzones are crazy good. And crazy simple.

Thank goodness for whoever invented pizza- pizza is a meal that always offers quality and taste time and time again.

The best part about these pepperoni pizza calzones is that kids go crazy for them. It’s also a forgiving recipe, so you don’t have to worry about perfection!

We’re all about quick and easy dinners, especially since we’re all going a million miles per minute. While this recipe is kid-approved, it’s also adult-approved as well.

Kid-Approved Pepperoni Pizza Calzones

Calzones are totally fun to make- just about as fun as they are to eat. When you’re in need of a quick and simple meal idea, pizza will never, ever let you down.

And if you happen to have some leftover, it tastes just as good the next day, too. The same goes for calzones; there’s nothing like grabbing a cold calzone from the fridge as you’re running out the door.

Can calzones be frozen?

Sure! Just make sure that you put them in a freezer-safe container, or bag them and store them in the freezer (this is the easiest way to have a super-fast meal, too). Just sit your frozen calzone in the fridge in the morning to thaw and you’ll have a tasty treat for dinner as well.

What side dishes would go well with homemade calzones?

Since this is a lot of bread and carbs, try serving up some steamed veggies or a nice side salad. There are lighter options out there that can be a really good accompaniment to a heavier dinner.

Variations on Pepperoni Pizza Calzones

The best part about pizza is that you can easily change it up quite a bit. While this recipe calls for pepperoni, who says you can’t be a rule-breaker?

  • Instead of pepperoni, use sausage, veggies, or just a ton of extra cheese. Each kiddo can even choose what they want since calzones are made independently.
  • Add a bit of spice and heat to your calzone by adding in some fresh jalapeno as well.
  • Skip the calzone altogether and just use the crust as a pizza crust. One kid can have a calzone, one kid can have a pizza. Viola!
  • Throw in some bacon for a real treat!

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf, 1 lb, frozen bread dough, thawed pizza sauce
  • your favorite toppings: pepperoni, cooked sausage, ham, etc.
  • shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons milk

How to make Pepperoni Pizza Calzones

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease a baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.

Cut dough into 4 pieces. Roll each piece into a 6-8″ circle with a rolling pin and a lightly floured surface. Transfer dough to a baking sheet and fill half of the dough with pizza sauce. Add your favorite toppings and shredded cheese. Fold the dough closed and seal the edges shut by pressing them firmly.

In a small bowl, mix together the Parmesan cheese and Italian seasoning. Spread milk on top of the dough with a pastry brush and sprinkle with the cheese and seasoning mixture. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Serve with additional pizza sauce or ranch dressing if desired.
