Sometimes I wish I could dissect my brain and find out why it does the things it does. Like the OCD isn’t enough, it’s now thrown me another curve ball; an unexplainable one that I’m hoping a few of you out there might be able to relate to and say, “Okay, this is why this is happening.” If not, I’m going to have to sell the plot to a reality TV show and I’m not fond of that route. Exploitation for dollars!
So here’s the deal. Three nights ago, I woke up out of a deep sleep thinking about a little pond down the road from the house I grew up in. I spent a lot of time there as a child. We loved throwing rocks into the water and catching all sorts of creatures. All fine and dandy except I haven’t thought about that spot in years. I simply woke up out of a dead sleep and it was on my mind. After dwelling on it for a few hours, it occurred to me that I couldn’t remember the name of this little piece of wetlands. It had one. I know it did. But for some reason my memory was clogged.
Once the day had passed, I stopped thinking about this weird phenonmenon, until this morning that is. Today, I again woke up out of a rather good sleep and the first thought I had was “Johnny Brook.” Eureka! That was the name of the little pond! But why did it just suddenly come to me? Why did I wake up and think of the name of this place? Weird is an understatement. I wasn’t dreaming about the brook, pond, whatever it is or was…it just popped into my head like someone had purposefully planted it there. Aliens?
I’m hoping tomorrow I wake up with the winning lottery numbers. The day after maybe Matt Damon’s phone number. Come on. I just want to say “hi”.
Have you ever had this happen to you? Do you know what causes the brain to implant certain facts and memories into our heads at will (when we are not dreaming)?
