Parenting Crap – Mom cited after 3-year-old son urinates in parking lot

Section Intro

A Georgia woman is facing a disorderly conduct charge after allowing her potty training 3-year-old son to urinate in a public parking lot.

Section Notes

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. –

WRDW reports Brooke Johns, of Beech Island, is pregnant with her third child and due next month. Recently, she was driving with her toddler son, Cohen, and he started complaining that he needed to use the bathroom.

“He’s like, ‘Mom, I’ve got to pee. I’ve got to pee!’ I was like, ‘Well, hold on,’ and he’s like, ‘No! I’ve GOT to pee! I’ve got to REALLY pee.’ And I’m like, ‘Baby, there’s nowhere for me to go, and he says, ‘Momma, I’m about to pee in my pants!” Johns said.

The two barely made it to a gas station parking lot before Brooke realized he wasn’t going to make it inside. Plus, due to her condition, she was unable to carry him.

“I can’t pick him up,” Johns said. “You know, I’m not supposed to lift him.”

Johns did her best to cover her son as he urinated in the parking lot.

“He was peeing before his pants were even all the way down, so obviously he had to go,” she said.

The incident was noticed by a Richmond County deputy.

“Accidents happen. And he was like, ‘Take him in the bathroom.’ What if I would have ran in the bathroom and someone had been in there? What was I going to let him do? Pee on the floor of the gas station?” Johns wondered.

The deputy decided to cite her for disorderly conduct. Her ticket reads: “She allowed her male child to urinate in the parking lot. I observed the male’s genitals and the urination. Public restrooms are offered at the location.”

Johns is due in court several days before she is due to give birth. The incident has sparked backlash on social media from parents who think the deputy overreacted.

Parenting Crap – 10 Things Special-Needs Moms Want You to Know (Autism Awareness Month)

Section Intro

Kids are kids. Whether they are “normal” or “special needs,” they all need the same things. They need love, affection, attention, structure, and a parent who puts them first. Sometimes I have a hard time explaining what it’s like to have a child who is on the spectrum.

Section Notes

Here are 10 things I want my mom friends to know.

  1. I’m Exhausted: Anyone who has kids knows what exhaustion is. My son is autistic and has OCD. In the morning we have to go through a very specific routine or he becomes agitated and cannot get ready for school. Some days I leave the house and I feel like I have already had an eight-hour day. I am not saying my exhaustion is more severe than yours, but my exhaustion is different from yours.
  1. I Didn’t Forget You: Sometimes I get swallowed up by my world. I forget that there are other people out there. I am not trying to be a bad friend. I am not trying to be neglectful. I am simply trying to survive.
  2. It’s Not a Fit, It’s a MELTDOWN: I have been at the grocery store and had to leave due to an F-7 meltdown. My middle child used to throw fits in the store; what my son does is not a fit. A fit can be contained or controlled in a short period of time. My son’s meltdowns have lasted for hours. I have had to leave stores, doctors appointment, and restaurants. When my son has a meltdown, he cannot control what he is saying or doing.
  3. Don’t Be Sorry: Being supportive and being sorry are two totally different things. I am not sorry that my son was made differently; you definitely do not need to be sorry. He is a blessing. He is hilarious. He is my hero. I never feel sorry for him, and I don’t feel sorry for myself either.
  4. I Will Talk When I Am Ready: If you ask me how things are going with my son, I may or may not want to talk about it. When my son was diagnosed, I didn’t tell anyone for about a week, not even my family. I knew he had various issues, but hearing the words, “Your son is autistic,” was very hard to hear. Sometimes I want to vent and rant and rave, other times I don’t want to utter a word.
  5. I’m Green With Envy: I am not a fan of the word jealous, but sometimes I am very jealous of “normal” families. I see how easy it can be to pick up and go places without all of the chaos. I forget that my family is the exact type of normal that they are supposed to be.
  6. Girls’ Night Out: If you plan a night out, invite me. I need to go out. I want to go out. If I make an excuse, call me on it. It is important and healthy to get away from the kids and the mess.
  7. Advice: I love to hear advice. I think that it takes a village to raise children. Give me your tips and tricks, and I am happy to share mine as well. Remember that what works for one may not work for the other. Special-needs children are no different in that respect.
  8. Don’t Say “I Know”: If you don’t know something, it’s OK to admit it. If I am telling you a story about getting my son dressed and how it took me an hour to put on his socks and shoes, and you have never experienced that before, don’t say, “I know.” Say, “That sucks.” Say, “I’m sorry your morning was so hectic.” Say, “Wanna have a drink tonight?”
  9. We Have the Same Job: Don’t look at me and think I am doing a different job. The end goal is the same. We want to produce good, honest, moral, happy human beings. We may need to take different paths to get there, but the destination is the same.

Knowing is half the battle. If you have a friend who is a special-needs mom, love her, support her, listen to her, and be there for her.

Love and Marriage – Did you marry the right sign?

Section Intro

We all know Tiffany loves the zodiac, so I figured we would have a conversation about marrying the right sign.

Section Notes

Aries (March 20-April 19)

If you’re an Aries who is ready to buy a house and have a family, then marry yourself a Leo, according to author and astrologer Robert Phoenix. He tells me Leos are your perfect match when it comes to having a family. But if you see yourself climbing mountains or chopping wood on the plains of Montana, you’ll be better off marrying a Sagitarrius. They’ll be your best bet for a life of adventure.

Taurus (April 19-May 20)

Do you see yourself having a cozy, homey family life? Then Phoenix tells me a Cancer is for you. However, if you’re more of a workaholic, or have an entrepreneurial spirit, then a Capricorn is probably the better choice. They’ll totally be down to help out with your awesome business idea.

Gemini (May 20-June 20)

As a Gemini, you love to have fun. So Farrar suggests looking for a partner who can move quickly, offer stimulating conversation, and keep you from getting bored. If you want someone who will be fascinating 24/7, Phoenix tells me a Sagittarius is your best bet. As for someone who will be fun in bed for forever and ever, look no further than your perfect sexual match — the Aquarius.

Cancer (June 20-July 22)

If you’re going through tough times, or want to be with someone who can handle anything, then Phoenix tells me a Virgo is the way to go. If you’re all about those looks, however, scoop up a Capricorn. They are your match for pure attraction.

Leo (July 22-August 22)

Leos are known for being quite the entertainers, according to Elizabeth Mitchell on HuffingtonPost.com. So if you’d like to meet your comic match, Phoenix suggests marrying yourself a Gemini. As for someone to take on the world with? Go for an Aries, and get to accomplishing all your goals.

Virgo (August 22-September 22)

If you’ve been through some trust issues in the past, then you may want to move forward with a Taurus. Not only are they down for deep commitment, according to Phoenix, but are also a great match for an enduring love life. (Win win?) If you see yourself heading in an entrepreneurial direction, then a Capricorn is your man (or woman).

Libra (September 22-October 23)

“Libras need to feel loved, feel special, and whether they will admit it or not, need to be doted on,” astrologer Benebell Wen tells me via email. Your best match will be someone who will be willing to do that for you, no matter what.

Scorpio (October 23-November 21)

Scorpios are known for being secretive, kind of obsessive, and even a bit intense. “They need a partner who understands their intensity and can be patient when they may want to hide,” Farrar says. I vote for a partner who can balance that out. However, if you’d like someone who can feed into a more taboo lifestyle, Phoenix suggests snagging yourself a Virgo.

Sagittarius (November 21-December 22)

Your kindred spirit is an Aquarius, according to Phoenix. And your best match for a life of ideals is a Libra. Go ahead and take your pick.

Capricorn (December 21-January 19)

If you’d like to take on the world, marry thyself a Scorpio. Phoenix tells me they are your best match in this department. They’ll be there to support your hardworking ways, which just so happens to be one of your most dominant traits, according to Mitchell.

Aquarius (January 19-Feberuary 18)

Do you feel totally misunderstood in life? If so, you’ll want to shack up with a partner who will get you, through and through. The best sign for that is another Aquarius, according to Phoenix, which makes perfect sense to me.

Pisces (February 18-March 20)

As a Pisces, you always have your head in the proverbial clouds. “They can sometimes feel like they are living in a dream or fantasy world,” Farrar says. “[So] a good partner for them would be someone who can keep their feet on the ground and gently bring them back to Earth when they may have lost their way.” Phoenix suggests finding a Cancer for unconditional love, or another Pisces so you two can “swim through life together.” Pretty cute, right?

And there you have it. Some marriage matches based on your sign. Remember, a lot more goes into these pairings than meets the eye (birth charts, lunar signs, sun signs, etc.) So take it all with a grain of salt, and always trust your gut when it comes to choosing a partner.
