Yes, we’re so #thankful and #blessed. But we’re also #stressed and we need #help. So here are 3 quick tips for effectively getting the help we need in our constantly busy lives.
- Be Clear and Specific: When you ask for help, be clear about what you need assistance with. Avoid vague or general requests. Clearly state your problem or the task you need help with, and provide as much relevant information as possible. (Hand your spouse the grocery list instead of just saying there’s too much on your plate today.) Specific requests are more likely to get a helpful response.
- Respect the Other Person’s Time: Acknowledge the person you’re asking for help has their own commitments and responsibilities. Be respectful of their time by being concise and to the point in your request. Everyone has stuff to do — spouses, kids, and parents are all busy — but everyone can help out if they put it in their schedule.
- Express Gratitude: Always express your gratitude when someone offers their help or provides assistance. A simple “thank you” can go a long way in building positive relationships. And showing appreciation teaches your kiddos and spouse that this is a key part of asking for and receiving help.
