Thankful

On this day before Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for many of the same things I keeping reading over and over again on Facebook (slight sarcasm, my apologies). Over and over again (okay, I’ll stop). Like hundreds of FB buds, I’m thankful for my kids, husband, family and friends, for having a roof over my head and food on the table and also for being in relatively good health. Thanksgiving really is a time to pause and reflect on those things we sometimes take for granted.

With that said, I have to admit I’ve felt as if I’ve been drowning in mushy, lovey, honey-do gratitude for the last 21 days. I’m glad everyone is so thankful, but I’m ready for it to be over with and Christmas to kick into full gear with people trampling each other on Black Friday. Really – be careful out there!

To break away from the norm, I’ve decided to list 5 alternative things that I am thankful for…

Online shopping: I despise crowds and noise, which is why I’m so damn thankful to be able to shop from my recliner – anytime of the day. Seriously. I braved Wal-Mart on foot yesterday and was scared shitless. You hear and see things there that no human being should ever have to endure. As we were leaving, the door person was in one of those motorized shopping carts spinning in endless circles while squealing, “Have a glittery Thanksgiving!” I was tempted to respond, “And you have a metallic one, too” but feared being chased down by an angry mob of Wally World regulars.

Argan oil: Argan oil is a plant oil produced from the kernels of the argan tree native to beautiful, luscious Morocco. Let me tell you, nothing turns dull, damaged hair into half decent locks as quickly and easily as this gift from nature. If I could afford it, I would bathe in this stuff.

Twilight: I believe that each of us has a book or movie that we can call our favorite – a piece of literary or film magic that imprints on our souls and lasts a lifetime. For me, it’s the Twilight series. As the movie franchise comes to an end, I am both sad and fortunate. Sad that those of us who relish in this supernatural story will be left with a bit of a hole and fortunate that in my lifetime, I knew the tale of Bella and Edward.

Crock pots: You knew they’d be on the list, right? Of course! My addiction to crock pot cooking is not without logic and substantiation. This method is quick and easy and most recipes turn out absolutely delicious. Any mom can appreciate a little boost in time and that is exactly what my crock pot gives me.

Bras that come in S, M and L: Okay. Clothing manufacturers take notice. After you have had a few kids and breastfed them, you really don’t have a normal bra size anymore. You can go up and down. Things go a little south and push up usually equates to falls out (know what I mean ladies?). That’s why I am so thankful I discovered a line of bras from Hanes and also one from Danskin that come in S, M and L. I know that I normally wear a medium size shirt and that is exactly my bra size, too.
