Pregnancy is a wonderful, life-changing experience! And looking good and feeling good is easy, with these simple tips:
Dress the part
Pregnancy is an excuse for a shopping spree. Fall in love with your body all over again. Invest in a few key pieces that flatter and hug your new shape. Accessorize with your favorite pieces. Just because you are pregnant does not mean you need to change your style completely.
Have a bra fitting
It is advised to visit a bra-fitting specialist in the first trimester of your pregnancy. Get out of your wire bras and wear comfortable maternity bras. Most women will experience rapid breast growth early on with an increase of up to three cup sizes. A good-fitting bra should not only feel comfortable and snug, but also help lift your bust, resulting in a more defined body shape.
Wear comfortable underwear
Ditch the sexy lacey panties. Opt for cotton or bamboo panties that have great coverage and feel super comfortable against your skin. Cotton panties don’t have to be boring. There are so many cute, fun options available now. Invest in several pairs, as these will also be your go-to undies post birth as well.
Food is your fuel. Eating healthy foods from a wide spectrum of food groups will not only help you feel great, but will also aid in the development of a healthy child. Be sure to check with your health care provider as there are some foods pregnant women are advised not to eat during pregnancy (i.e. soft cheese, deli foods, and fish high in mercury, to name a few).
Drink plenty of water. Always keep a bottle with you and drink at regular intervals. Keeping hydrated will help keep you cool, keep energy levels up, and will also keep your skin plump and glowing. Avoid too many sugary drinks, as they will dehydrate you.
It is advised to take folic acid in the first trimester. Folic acid helps in the development of a healthy baby in the early stages of pregnancy. Check with your health care provider as other supplements may be recommended to help boost your energy levels and vitamin intake, depending on your health and well-being.
Make regular health checks
It is advised to make regular visits to your doctor and or health care provider. By visiting regularly your health care provider can keep a check on your blood pressure, weight, belly growth, and your baby’s development. Should you have any concerns it is always advised to discuss them with your provider. Keeping calm and stress free will aid in a healthy pregnancy.
It is particularly important to maintain a healthy exercise routine while pregnant. Regular low impact exercise will help keep your body feeling fit and strong. Build exercise into your daily routine and stick with it.
Swimming is a wonderful, low-impact exercise that is gentle on the body. The cool water will help soothe and the weightlessness will feel amazing particularly in the later stages of pregnancy.
Both yoga and meditation are wonderful for the mind and body. Physically, yoga will help keep your muscles strong. Mentally, the breathing practiced in both yoga and meditation will help center you. Deep, controlled breaths are perfect for when you are feeling on edge or stressed.
Take time out of your day to rest. Listen to your body and understand the signs when rest is required. Most women will find that early in the first trimester they feel very tired. This is also particularly true in the later stages of pregnancy. Taking a few moments for yourself during a busy day is very beneficial. Your body will love you for it.
Dress appropriately for the weather. Should you be pregnant during the summer months, wear cool fabrics that are non-restrictive and encourage airflow. Avoid saunas, spas, hot showers, and baths, as these can overheat you quickly.
Getting a good night’s sleep is vital for your well-being. Invest in a good sleep pillow to aid in sleeping on your side. Wear cool non-restrictive sleepwear that allows your skin to breathe. Cotton, bamboo, or modal fabrics are advised. Keep the room cool. Ceiling fans or having the window slightly ajar will help you sleep while helping airflow.
