5 Eco-Friendly Ways to Remove Laundry Stains

Doing laundry can be time-consuming: You have to collect your dirty clothes, wash and dry them, and then fold them! It’s a lot of work, and it never ends. What’s even more annoying than doing your laundry, though, is when you put on a fresh shirt only to spill something on it minutes into wearing it! What do you do then? Many people throw it right back into the washer.

The problem is, this consumes lots of water, energy, and it runs up your utility bill. For example, the average U.S. home consumes over 13,000 gallons of water a year washing clothes. That’s a lot of water, and it’s also bad for the environment.

Fortunately, there are green stain remover alternatives to using a washing machine, and the products and ingredients you need are all right in your kitchen or pantry!

To give an idea of what we mean, you can simply squeeze lemon juice onto yellowing sweat stains. Once the stain is soaked, you simply sprinkle salt over the area. The combination of salt and lemon juice creates a natural bleach effect that will rinse out the yellow color. Of course, you shouldn’t apply this method to dark clothing!

There are several other methods you can try as well, and they vary based on the type of stain you have. To learn about these easy hacks for the home, check out the infographic from Tommy John below.
