Amidst the doom and gloom and dark wasteland that is our world right now, there is a shining beacon of light.

STEVE.

Steve Burns was the original host of Blue’s Clues and was an iconic figure to a generation of kids growing up in the 90s.

Millennials spent a part of their childhoods looking for clues to the day’s mystery with Steve and his adorable canine partner, Blue.

For 4 seasons, Steve, in his signature green-striped polo shirt and khaki pants, was a regular in millions of childrens’ living rooms. He would ask a question. We would answer him back. We were all part of the same team.

And it was magic.

But then one day, out of the blue, Steve sang his final “So Long” song.

He abruptly announced he was off to college, handed over the Blue’s Clues house to Joe, and hopped on a bus. Gone. In a blink. And a piece of us died just a little

(You can relive the trauma here. Thanks @epipeny. Thanks A LOT.)

But none of it matters now because he’s back! And we can finally find the closure we never knew we needed. Until now.

In honor of Blue’s Clues’ 25th year anniversary (just don’t do the math. You’re old-ish, that’s all you need to know) Steve appears in a video posted by Nick Jr. to clear up one last mystery: why he left.

(And OMG, grab the tissues, you’re gonna need them, trust me.)

He opens his monologue with:

Hi, you got a second?

For you Steve, always.

You remember how when we were younger we used to run around and hang out with Blue and find clues and talk to Mr. Salt and freak out about the mail and do all the fun stuff, and then one day I was like,

‘Oh hey, guess what? Big news . . . I’m leaving. This is my brother, Joe, he’s your new best friend,’

and then I got on a bus and I left and we didn’t see each other for, like, a really long time?”

Oh, we REMEMBER Steve.

Can we just talk about that? Great.

Do we have to? I mean, now that you brought it up, I guess we have to but I gotta say, this is hitting me hard right in the feelings and I don’t know if I’m emotionally prepared. But go ahead.

Steve goes on to explain that he realizes his departure was “kind of abrupt” and that he went off to college and “got to use his mind and take a step at a time,” and now he’s doing many of the things that he always wanted to do.

However, he doesn’t stop here. In true Steve fashion, he turns the conversation to his viewers. To you and me.

May the floodgates open.

“And look at all you have done and all you have accomplished in all that time…it’s just so amazing, right?

Really amazing:

We have accomplished a lot! Well some of us have, others, not so much:

Steve goes on to say:

I mean we started out with clues, and now it’s student loans and jobs and families, and some of it has been kind of hard, you know?

I know you know.

WE DO know!! *SOB*

Steve tells us that he couldn’t have accomplished all he did without our help. And even now, we’re still helping him. Awwww Steve.

And then…the final GUT PUNCH:

I guess I just wanted to say that after all these years, I never forgot you…ever.

And I’m Super Glad That We’re Still Friends.

We’re super glad too! (And if you aren’t sobbing in your coffee right now, what is wrong with you?? You with the cold, dead heart.)

Steve closes out the video with the following words of affirmation:

You look great by the way. Whatever it is you’re doing it’s working.

Who knew this is exactly what we all needed to hear right now? Steve knew that’s who.

Yeah, me neither. Like, at all.

Nick Jr. has shared the video across its social channels and it has been viewed a whopping 26M times in 24 hours.

Countless people have liked it, commented on it, and shared it.

We are on day 1 billion and 67 of life in the time of corona. We are exhausted. Our cups? Runneth empty. We are out of fuel, barely running on fumes, and dangerously close to being out of hope.

It’s obvious that we are reaching our limits. But then, along comes Steve. With the most affirming, sweet, wholesome message in the history of messages.

And all we can say is, we never forgot you either.
