I was just minding my own business the other night, scrolling through TikTok as one does, when I stumbled upon the most mesmerizing video I’ve ever seen.

When I tell you that I was put under some weirdly powerful spell of relaxation and awe, I am not kidding.

So, what was this video? Please don’t laugh, but it was nothing more than a lady folding a fitted sheet.

The TikTok video that is taking the world by a relaxing storm of calm and serenity was posted by TikTok user @amymaree992 and it has already been viewed 4.1 million times (probably by me, if I’m being honest).

The caption reads, “Thanks Mum for the tip on how to fold a fitted sheet!”

Now, we all know that you don’t fold a fitted sheet.

A folded sheet must get balled up tightly then tossed into a closet or drawer where it will sit until you all but threaten yourself if you don’t get around to changing the damn sheets.

And yet, this video of a lady perfectly folding a fitted sheet holds sway over me that I cannot accurately describe.

Maybe it’s that she’s a grandmother-ish type?

Perhaps it is the perfection in how she folds that is just so soothingly lovely to watch?

Or maybe it’s the fact that anyone folds a fitted sheet is a spectacle in and of itself.

Who knows what the allure is, I just know that for a split second, I contemplated getting my laundry done so I can try this method out.

I’m not alone in my confusion about how I feel about this video. The comments section did not disappoint. Here are a few of my personal favorites:

Alf Johan had a hilarious quip, “I have seen too much. Calls FBI: so, yeah, uhm, hi. I just saw someone perfectly fold a fitted sheet and y’all didn’t show up.”

Lacey M. Atkins had the same question that I had, “what sorcery is this and why didn’t my granny or great gran teach me this?!?”

But IDK. Maybe it isn’t enough to call this feat of folding simply magic. Perhaps we should consider Simona Teodora Tatuc who commented, “that’s called ART! Your mom is an artist!”

Others had some good technical questions about folding a fitted sheet.

And you know, now that I think about it, this next question deserves an answer. Christina Wininger wants to know, “Well, how am I supposed to know if it’s fitted or flat if one isn’t rolled up in a ball?”

But one response, in particular, caught my eye. Apple User 762952108 wrote, “A) how many people have a clothesline anymore and B) who has more than 1 sheet so that they need to fold up an extra one? Wash/dry/return to the bed!”

The comments section is a hilarious glimpse at how, no matter where in the world you are — seriously, the number of languages that appear in this comment thread is mighty impressive — ain’t no one got time for folding a fitted sheet. But that won’t stop folks from watching one get folded perfectly anyway.

I watched this video a dozen times and sent it to all of my mom friends and I can tell you this; as entertained and astonished as I was at this gorgeous witchcraft, I will still ball my sheets up and chuck them into the linen closet the way God intended.
